MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Request for a Short Term Extension of the
Stanford Research Insitutute - Perceptual
Augmentation Technique Contract
1. It is recommended that the above contract be
considered for an extension. This recommendation is made
in order to gain time and gather additional specific data.
The additional time and data will be used to make a more
orderly an
tailed analysis of the operational potential
of paranormal techniques. A longer term recommendation
will be made near the end of the extended effort.
2. Background. After briefing various elements of
the Agency concerningthe results of the SRI investigation
considerable positive response was quickly received l Each
of those groups expressing interest was asked to describe
their interest. The interest expressed is mostly in the
form of specific operational experiments. A example of the
operational tests desired by Soviet Europe Division is noted
in ref. 3 and explained in detail in ref. 12.
3. Two specific request have been given preliminary
consideration6, 10, 11. One of these requests, the task

was apparently successfuly completed. 10, 11 by one of -
the SRI recommended subjects. Request to describe the scene
in a remote spot was also apparently successfully
completed by at jects.6
It is noted that the staff

4. An extension of the SRI is recommended because
SRI as developed testing and screening techniques to locate
new subjects and characterize the abilities of knowsubjects.
