FBIS 3ranch Editorial Division
The Editorial division selects, evaluates from an intelligence standpoint, and edits raw
material provided by the ?~onitorin, Division; prepares and disseminates daily and special reports
on such information to authorized Government Agencies; operates teletype service to such Govern-
ment offices and to F~3I~ field stations; indexes and files all records of monitored material
for information and research library purposes.

Under present operations the only broadcast material from La.tin.American countries which
can be intercepted by rBIB is the relatively insignificant portion transmitted on shortwave
frequencies, Sufficient information regarding reception conditions in South p,~nerica is not at
hand to permit a specific proposal x^or improving Latin Ap~erican coverage. To deveiog the
needed data an youth American transmitters, it is proposed to send a four-man testing crew
