MISSION READOUT: THIS MISSION PROVIDES FIRST COVERAGE OF TASHKENT SINCE THE FIRST EARTHQUAKE SHOCK ON 26 APR 66 AND REPORTED AFTERSHOCKS TO THE TIME OF COVERAGE. GOOD STEREO COVERAGE REVEALS EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE IN THE OLD SECTION OF CITY, CLEARING ACTIVITY IN 2 BLOCKS NEAR THE CENTER OF NEW CITY, AND POSSIBLE EARTH SLIPPAGE NW OF THE STADIUM. SEVERAL TENT CAMPS ARE IDENTIFIED IN PARKS AND LARGE COURTYARDS. WATER IS OBSERVED BEING DISCHARGED OVER SLUICEWAYS ATTACHED TO 2 POWERPLANTS (WITHIN CITY LIMITS) OF THE CHIRCHIK CASCADE OF HYDROELECTRIC POWERPLANTS, INDICATING POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
