1. SIGNIFICANCE: INITIAL IDENTIFICATION OF A BACK-TO-BACK RADAR
MOUNTED ON THE EASTERNMOST "BEER CAN". THIS
RADAR IS SIMILAR TO THE 2 OBSERVED AT ELEC-
TRONICS SITE "C" OF LAUNCH COMPLEX "A", SARY-
SHAGAN ANTIMISSILE TEST CENTER (SSATC).
FIVE OTHER ELEVATED PLATFORMS, DESIGNATED "BEER
CAN", HAVE BEEN OBSERVED IN THE USSR -- 2 EACH
AT THE LENINGRAD NORTHWEST AND SOUTHWEST PROB-
ABLE LONG RANGE SAM LAUNCH COMPLEXES, AND 1
UNDER CONSTRUCTION NEAR VERKHNYAYA SALDA. TO
DATE, NO RADARS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED ON THESE
"BEER CAN" PLATFORMS.
PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS
AT THE KAPUSTIN YAR ELECTRONIC SITE ARE ARRANGED
IN A LINEAR PATTERN BETWEEN 2 TOWERS AND INCLUDE
4 RADAR MOUNDS (3 OCCUPIED BY BACK NET-TYPE RADARS),

RADAR) CAN BE IDENTIFIED ON THE WESTERNMOST ELEVATED PLATFORM.
THE SEPARATELY SECURED AREA TO THE NORTHEAST REMAINS IN AN EARLY
STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION, WITH ITS 'F'UNCTION STILL UNDERTERMINED. A COM-
