THE PLANT CONTAINS STRUCTURES WHICH COULD POSSIBLY ASSOCIATE IT WITH MISSILE PRO- DUCTION. 2. REMARKS: IN JUNE 1959 THE PEIPING AIRFRAME PLANT CONTAINED 1,208,825 SQ FT OF FLOORSPACE. BETWEEN JUNE 1959 AND AUGUST 1962, DESPITE THE WITHDRAWAL OF SOVIET TECHNICIANS AND THE MATERIAL SHORTAGES CAUSED BY THE "GREAT LEAP FORWARD," AN ADDITIONAL 1,787,325 SQ FT WERE CONSTRUCTED. BETWEEN AUGUST 1962 AND SEPTEMBER 1965 ANOTHER 680,125 SQ FT WERE ADDED FOR A TOTAL OF 3,676,275 SQ FT. 3. LOCATION: 7.5 NM SOUTH OF THE CENTER OF PEIPING AND ADJACENT TO THE PEIPING/NAN-YUAN AIRFIELD AT 3948N 11625E. MISSION READOUT: THIS MISSION REVEALS THAT AT LEAST 3 NEW I I AN AIRCRAFT ENGINE TEST BUILDING, CONTAINS 2 ENGINE TEST CELLS. CON- STRUCTION ACTIVITY APPEARS TO BE HEAVY THROUGHOUT THE PLANT AREA. THREE LONG RAIL CARS, APPROXIMATELY ARE ADJACENT TO THE TRANS- SHIPMENT BUILDINGS ON THE NORM SIDE OF THE PLANT. A REANALYSIS OF PHOTOGRAPHY HAS REVEALED TWO STRUCTURES WHICH COULD ASSOCIATE THIS PLANT WITH MISSILE PRODUCTION. THE TWO STRUCTURES ARE IDENTIFIED AS A PROBABLE VERTICAL ASSEMBLY BUILDING AND A PROBABLE HYDROSTATIC TEST TOWER. NEITHER OF THESE STRUCTURES WAS PRESENT ON HOWEVER, ON APPEARED TO BE IN THE LATE STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION.
