The BACK NET EW/GCI radar has been reported at seven locations in the
Black Sea Area. One of these locations, near the Samtredia East Airfield,
has been confirmed by ground photography. None of the seven locations has
previously been confirmed from aerial photography.
An effort has been made to identify-these BACK NET radars utilizing
first, am available KH-7 photography over the desired areas, and secondly,
the most recent KH-4 photograpEy.at those locations not covered by KH-7

A search within a 5 nm radius of each location utilizing referenced
photographic coverage of the seven areas, did not reveal any BACK NET radars.
,Generally good quality KH-7 coverage was utilized for the search of the loca-
tions-at Poti, Sevastopol, Batumi and.Makharadze. Good quality, small scale
KH-4 photography was used for the search of the Samtredia, Kutaisi, and Zugdidi
locations.
Even though the Samtredia BACK NET radar has been observed on ground photog-
raphy it could not be located and identified based on a thorough stereoscopic
review of the KH-4 photography over the location.
