- 1. This memorandum is'in response to the above referenced requirement
which concerns the highway bridge construction program of North Vietnam
National Routes 7., 8, 12, and 1. Included within this memorandum is
'information pertaining to the location, type of construction, and approximate
length of new highway bridges on the above referenced routes.
2. The photographic coverage utilized in satisfying this requirement
disclosed new highway bridge construction. on Routes 7., 12 and 1. Route 8
had no noticable new bridge construction. The following bridges are either
new, under construction, or show signs of preliminary constructions An
example of the latter category is the construction of a by-pass road loop
around an existing bridge to service the main road whiloe_a new bridge is
built in place of the older bridge. Examples.of these by-pass road loops
are shown on photos CIA/PID/IB-P-1342/64, 1345/64, 1346/64, and P-1347/64
.(Annotations 3, 6, 7, and 8). Bridges are referred to in the memorandum
by place name and geographic -coordinates (Reference: AMS Map Series 1509, Sheet
NE 48-2/3/7/11/12, Edition 2-AMS,.Scale 1:250,000).- Provided with the
memorandum are 7X enlargements of these bridges (CIA/PID/IB-P-1340/64 through
P-1356/64) and an overlay depicting their locations (CIA/PID/IB-P-1357/61+)
(Reference: AMS Map Series 1301, Sheet NE 48, Scale 1:1,000,000). Mensuration,
X1 D where possible, was performed by the analyst and. are approximations only.

Aerial photography was utilized to identify new bridges and
confirm indications of new construction.
3. Bridge construction on Route 7 is concentrated along the Nam Mo
(river) from a Rao. North Vietnam (190 171N - io49.26'E) to the Laotian

this route and yielded the following information:

near Ban Ang, North Vietnam (19? 15'N - i01-4.0 24'E), replacing an older
bridge at the same location. A by-pass road loop services.the main

b. A deck-type highway bridge (approximate length 275) under
construction in is now completed near Khe Kien, North
Vietnam (19? 16'N -11040 21'E). (CIA/PID/IB-P-1341/64, Annotation 2).
c. 'A by-pass road loop has been constructed around, the' deck-
type highway bridge (approximate length 125') near Ban Houei Cu,

d. A new highway bridge under construction near Ban Ca_Tang,
North Vietnam (19? 20'N 104? 18'E), replacing an older bridge at
the same location. A by-pass road loop services the main road
