USSR BELORUSSIAN MD TOP SECRET This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center 1P1c (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report. Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips, (D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am- munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields, (L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/ assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingranges, (Q) artillery emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train- ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified facilities or tracking activity. 25X1 TOP SECRET I I 25X1 TOP SECRET MINSK BARRACKS KALININA (53-58N Q27-45E) MINSK, MINSKAYA OBLAST, USSR BELORUSSIAN MD 25X1 25X1 Railroad, double track Railroad, single track Road TOP SECRET 25X1 25X1 TOP SECRET Minsk Barracks Kalinina is located 13.5 kilometers (km) northeast of Minsk (53-55N 027-35E), just northwest of Kalinina and on the south side of the Minsk-Moscow highway (Fig- ure 1). Several good all-weather roads also serve the installation. The installation is not rail served; however, the Minsk-Borisov rail line is approximately 2 km southeast. Other military installations in this vicinity include Minsk Army Barracks Uruchye (AL-1), imme- diately west-southwest, and the Minsk Military Training Area (TA-1), which is directly as- sociated with both installations. This installation (Figures 2 and 3) covers approximately 800 acres and contains four ad- ministrative buildings, 10 barracks, 19 storage buildings, 21 support buildings, 20 probable de- pendents quarters, a tent camp area and eight equipment storage/maintenance buildings of which two are located in a secured motor park area. 'Training facilities within the area include an athletic field, a wheeled-vehicle driver-train- ing course and a small arms firing range. DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION Road Service General Storage Areas The Minsk-Moscow highway runs along the northwest edge of this installation. Several other good all-weather roads also serve the instal- lation. Administrative and Troop Housing Area Area D (Figure 3) contains two administra- tive buildings, 10 barracks, two storage build- ings and one support building. Track activity indicates that the buildings are probably being utilized. The presence of a tent camp area in- dicates a probable additional temporary billet- ing capacity. Two support buildings and one storage building have been added Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas Area J1 contains one vehicle storage/main- tenance building 110 by 90 feet, one vehicle shed 135 by 35 feet, one storage building and a secured motor park 320 by 440 feet. Area J2 contains five equipment storage/ maintenance buildings 240 by 60 feet, one equip- ment storage/maintenance building 140 by 60 feet and five support buildings. Four artillery 25X1 pieces were observed in this area on I 25X1 25X1 Trackage indicates that both areas are occupied. 0 Small Arms Firing Range Area L is a small arms firing range 650 by 45 feet.
