ATTENTION THROUGH FROM ? - . Chief, Requirements Branch, Reconnaissance Group, CGS Chief'; L /PIt ( NPIC ) SUBJECT Institute of Metalloceramics and Special Alloys at Kiev, USSR REFERENCES ,: (1) Requirement No. Osl/R-177/6j (2) CIA/PID Project No. C 623/6-3 In compliance with the above referenced requirement, a search of I Iphotography was conducted to locate and analyze the buildings of the Institute of Metalloceramics and Special Alloys at Kiev, USSR. 2. The institute is physically located in two widely separated parts of Kiev. The older of the institute locations is reported at Lavra, Tsi- Tadel19, which is the address Qf the Lavra Monastery. A photo enlargement of the monastery site is enclosed. As can be seen on the photo, nothing distinctive is apparent which would readily prove the existence of a high temperature research operation. No gas storage vessels or electric power distribution equipment is visible, both of which would be necessary in research of the nature presumably carried on at this site. There are, however, buildings within the. complex which would be capable of housing this type of apparatus. There do not appear to be any manufacturing type facilities connected with the monastery site. The reported address of the new complex of buildings associated with the institute coulcl not be found on any available map of Kiev; however, -CIA Information Report- describes its approximate location. According to the report, the new site can be reached by driving 5.2 miles eastward, from the Kiev Circus, out Brest-Litovsk Chausse. At that-.,point a right-turn is made and a distance of approximately .7 mile is traveled to the road end. Here another right turn is-mad and after driving "a short distance") the locatioi-of the new buildings is reached. The site is described as having a small, two-story administration type building flanked, by a larger building on either side. A fourth building, small in size, is reported to be located "behind the further of the two large buildings". Reviewed by NGA. Again, as on the iavr S $-,- nor.gas atorag= facilities or large scale electr_ls, distri- bution facilities are evident. However, construction is still in progress on the site and it is possible that these items would be placed at a later date. The photography shows the roof of one building as being incomplete, a fact which is mentioned in the above referenced report. There do not appear to be manufacturing facilities in association with the site. 3.
