NATIONAL 'PHOTOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION CENTER TOP SECRET CHESS RUFF NPIC/R-338/64 This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photo raphic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center IPIc (I)IA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group. LOCATION OF MINSK AMMUNITION DEPOT SOUTHEAST. -2 - TOP SECRET CHESS RUFF TOP SECRET CHESS RUFF Minsk Ammunition Depot Southeast (Figure 1) is located 15 kilometers (km) southeast of 25X1 D 25X1 D This installation is covered by- TAL- ENT photography and KEYHOLE missions dated Compara- tive analysis reveals an increase in the R5A1 D of activity. Significant changes observed are as follows: - coverage revealed a spur from the Minsk-Osipovichi rail line branching off 1 km north of Berezina serv- ing this installation; - coverage grre- vealed this spur extending past the in2aG4Attibn and joining a new rail line, under construc- tion from the Minsk-Osipovichi rail line. Changes in the ammunition storage area be- tween include the addition of four unrevetted atr5Li?on storage buildings and four support buildings. Changes in the support area include the ad- dition of one administration and one adm--i31= istrative-type building, four barracks, four storage buildings, and five support buildings. Minsk (53-54N 027-34E). The installation is rail-served by a branch line from the Minsk- Osipovichi rail line. A secondary road pro- vides access to the primary all-weather Minsk- Smilovichi highway. The Minsk Army Barracks, Uruchye (AL-_1) is located 18 km north-north east. Numerous other military installations are located in the Minsk area. The ammunition storage area and adjacent support area cover 380 acres. The ammunition storage __area is enclosed by_ a fence and a wide firebreak and contains 28 unrevetted ammunition storage buildings, two probable rail-to-road transloading buildings and nine support build- ings. The support area located outside the secured area contains oneministrationbuild- fng, two administrative-type buildings, seven multistory barracks, 11 storage buildings and 12 support buildings. 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D DESCPIPTION OF INSTALLATION Railroad Service The installation is served by a new branch line from the .Minsk-Osipovichi rail line com- pleted to a point immediately north of the stor- age area and under construction toward Minsk. Road Service A secondary road provides access to the all-weather primary Minsk-Smilovichi road.
