Nine of the scars were first identified in April 1962 and six in April 1963 on KEYHOLE photography. The scars consist of straight, narrow clearings of vegetation in which the ground sur- face is disrupted (Figures 2, 3, 4). 'I heir approx- imate length varies from 0.4 nautical miles (nm) to 8.6 nm, with nine scars between 3.0 and 5.5 nm in length (Table 1). Terrain apparently has not been a factor in the positioning of the scars, for a number of them cross ditches, streams, W r) SWEDEN ?.~/?~ ~~ - - a Murmansk Kaliningrad _.Y_-' .`r?.8rest Ku yby5h- Sverdlo,.Sk Astrakhan ? It appears possible that visibility from end to end in each scar maybe unimpeded; in some cases visibility has been achieved by the use of a tower at one or both ends of the scar. Thirteen of the scars are close to the great circle path from the Tyura Tam Missile 'I est Center (TI TC) to the Lka j Klyuchi impact area and from the TTMTC to the Pacific Ocean impact area near Johnston Island and the Hawaiian Islands. The other two scars, located north of the Arctic Circle, cannot by their location be associated with a known impact area. Nine of the scars, those identified in April 1962, have been previously designated possible electronics sites. 1 SERE K A ? K ON O V A L 0 VO snoyatsk N b OVCSi ir S.. - 1( UR AK 4 _ ?
