The naval base facilities comprise a base headquarters build- ing and 10 associated administrative buildings, a probable military housing area, approximately 50 storage buildings, approximately 20 repair and maintenance shops, 2 covered graving docks, 2 floating drydocks, one wharf, 7 quays, 2 Surabaja Naval Base and Shipyard (Figure situated at the north edge of Surabaja, is largest naval base and the second largest petroleum piers, and 15 other piers. Numerous 25X1 D cranes and other pieces of equipment were observed in the area. Naval vessels observed on 5 submarines (SS), probably W-class; one Sverdlov-class light cruiser (CL); 4 Skoryy- class destroyers (DD);4 Riga-class destroyer escorts (DE); 4 unidentified frigates: one Don- class submarine tender (AS); one Atrek-class small submarine tender (ASL); one Pevek-class 25X1 D Declassification review by NIMA/DOD 25X1 C 25X1 D oiler (AO); 40 minor surface types, and 4 tank' landing ships (LST). Naval vessels observed on 1/: 2 submarines (SS), probably W-class; 4 Skorvy-class destroyers (DD); 2 Riga-class destroyer escorts (DE); 4 unidentified frigates; one Atrek-class small submarine tender (ASL); one Pevek-class oiler (AO); 3 smaller oilers; 40 minor surface types, and 4 tank landing ships (LST). The commercial harbor facilities, one nm WSW of the naval base, comprise approximately 80 storage buildings, a shipyard with one ship- building way, 3 floating drydocks, 2 marine railways, 3 graving docks, one oil wharf, and 25X1 C 14 other wharfs. Numerous cranes and other pieces of equipment were observed in the area. POL storage areas containing a total of 34 vertical storage tanks are located south of the port area. Commercial vessels observed on 2 large tankers, 16 large freighters, and numerous smaller vessels.
