CHINA Ch'eng-tu Airframe _Plant(30-43N 103-57E) i8 located 6 nautical miles northwest of the center of the city of Ch'eng-tu, in Szechwan Province. According to a report '1/, MUG-15, FAGOT-type, jet air- craft are assembled here. Aerial photographic evidence shows this to be a full-fledged airframe plant, rather than an assembly process of imported parts. This airframe plant (see accompanying figure) occupies an area u hl 3, 9 00 feet by 1, 800 feet, and has a roof cover of approximately I square feet, and a usable floor space of approximately 1 768, 245 square feet. The entire plant area is secured by a fence and/ o wall, and is served by a new single-track rail line from Ch'eng-tu, and a new road from Ch'eng=tu. Adjacent to and west of the plant, a new airfield is under con- struction. This consists of a hard-surfaced landing strip 8, 500 by 225 feet, oriented N/S, and a ,full-length parallel taxiway 90 feet wide ith four crossovers. A paved roadway and/or taxiway is under con- -s ruction from the airframe plant -to the airfield, indicating its future Z Fe as the flyaway field for the plant. The airfield will also be served b an extension of the same rail line that serves the airframe plant. 1 Immediately to the south of the plant is a large T-shaped area of n w multistoried housing, under construction, measuring approximately 2 000 feet by 2, 400 feet. An aviation technical school is located approximately one nautical ile southeast of the airframe plant.
