SA-2 SITES WITH EARLY WARNING RADARS
This is the second in a series of four reports dealing with the presence
of early warning radars at SA-2 surface-to-air missile sites along the entire
periphery of the USSR. The area covered in this report extends from the
Caspian to the Barents Sea. A detailed examination of all surface-to-air
missile sites along this periphery was conducted to determine the number and
location of SAM sites having associated early warning radars in addition to
the standard complement of electronics.
A total of 294 surface-to-air missile sites, deployed along the periphery
of the USSR from the Caspian Sea to the Barents Sea, were studied on the latest
and best quality photographic coverage. This examination revealed
five SA-2 sites in the search area have either an early warning radar and/or
mounded radar positions in addition to the normal or standard complement of
electronics (Figure 1). Two of the sites have TALL KING radars and two
mounded radar positions. The remaining three sites have only mounded radar
positions.
The following is an alphabetical listing of the five surface-to-air
missile sites with additional radars or radar positions.
