The complex extends 33.5 nm in a gen- eral northeast-southwest direction; at present, the westernmost launch site is 24.5 nm from its counterpart in the east. The complex (Figure 1) consists of a complex support facility, a rail-to-road transfer point, and 36 Type IIID launch sites. The launch sites are considered to be formed into 4 launch groups (A, B, C, and D). Two of the launch groups (A and B) consist of a collocated launch site and electronic control facility and 9 additional launch sites; a third launch group (C) consists of 9 launch sites, with the location of the electronic control facility as yet undetermined; and the fourth launch group (D) consists of 6 launch sites but probably will be expanded to a total of 10 sites. The association of Launch Site 35 with a particular launch group has not been determined. Tatishchevo is the only complex in the USSR comprised solely of Type IIID launch sites. There was no evidence of the complex 25X1 D I I The complex support facility and Launc roue were first seen Missile-related activity was first noted in Tatishchevo Iwhen construction on 2 hard ICBM launch sites was begun but shortly abandoned. The only SAM sites identified in the vicinity of the complex are those for the defense of Saratov. 25X1 Approved For Release 2003 FO SalkMP78T04759A003700010030-4 45?DO' TOP SECRETI Approved For Release 2003108104: C ATKA~SK 0 ATKARSK SOUTHEAST AIRFIELD 42D \ -~-~-Railroad Road ` -- -.Pipeline -- Cable scar Launch site Launch site and electronic - control facility NAUTICAL MILES 04759A00370001 0030-4 163 I29 45?30' ^II FIGURE 1.
