This report supplements NPIC/R-388/63,
1/ which discusses the Novosysoyevka IRBM
Complex, consisting of 1 Type III and 1 Type IV
IRBM launch area, together with an associated
rail-to-road transfer point (Figure 1). An
area previously included in the complex as
Possible Launch Area No 3 appears to have
been abandoned in an early stage of construction.
Launch Area No 1 was first observed in
and was complete
at that time. Launch Area No 2 was initially
observed in and was
complete in
Launch Area No 1 is located 35 nautical miles
(nm) southeast of Spassk-Dalniy, and 7 nm east-
northeast of Arsenyev. Launch Area No 2 is
4 nm south-southeast of Launch Area No 1.
Both areas are located in very rugged terrain.
The launch site (Figure 2) is oriented on
an azimuth of approximately-and
appears to be doubly fenced. Each of the launch
silo covers measures approximately 60 by 55
feet, and a rectangular structure is observed
in the eastern portion of the launch site.
_ A mounded building and a drive-through
building with an external overhead crane appear
to be complete. Additionally, 3 structures
appear to be under construction in the area,
which may imply that the facility will resemble
a Class D type configuration. No security fence
is observed around the facility. However, the
surrounding foliage is quite dense and could
obscure any fencing present.
The site support facility, located farther to
the west, consists of at least 23 structures. The
largest structure measures approximately 220
by 65 feet, and 2 other structures are approxi-
mately 145 by 50 feet. Further analysis of
this facility is restricted because of the poor
interpretability of available photography. A
probable construction camp is located still
farther to the west.
A rail-to-road transfer point is located
6 nm to the northwest. Improved roads link
the transfer point to the launch area.
