P.I. NOTES 24/66 \25X1A IAD DEVELOPMENTS the new Deputy Director for Intelligence and the new Assistant Deputy Director for Intelligence, made a very brief visit to IAD on 10 February 1966 to get acquainted with products, equipment, (II A probable missile approximately 3 feet lon with a cluster of at least 3 booster sections approximately has been identified in position on its launcher at Launch Position , unch Site B, Launch Area 2, Sary Shagan Launch Complex A. This is the first time such a missile has been seen in the test 'complex. The length of each of the clustered 25X1 Dboosters equates to that of a Griffon booster. Launch Site B at Launch Area 2, Launch Complex A, and Possible Launch Site A at Launch Area 1, Sary Shagan (Main Support Base) are probably intended to accommodate only 1 missile per. launch position with no construction of V-shaped rail patterns intended. This is a further departure from the original Tallinn pattern. 25X1 D The probable long-range SAM launch complexes at Sary Shagan have replaced operational SA-2 sites located nearby, providing additional evidence that they are operationally deployed systems. Both SAM Site B04-2 at Launch Complex A and SAM Site A26-2 near Launch Area 1 have been activated. The former was inactivated at the time the probable long-range SAM complex was emplaced at Launch Area 2, and SAM Site A26-2 was inactivated sometime between TOP SECRET Approved For Release 99039 MW 25X1 D 25X1 D Approved For Rele,s~,2QQ3{4,1 - Mir, 10 1 U1 759A003300010006-5 CIA INTERNAL ICERNA A suspect uranium-mining activity has been identified 26 nm southeast of I-ping, China at 113-34+N 081-39E. A tall building 5 nm north-northeast is suspect as an ore-processing mill under construction because of its probable association with the expanded mines. 25X1 D xnaiysis or I I reveals continued construction activity on the uncompleted section of the Kuei-yang (26-35N 106-42E)/Kun-ming (25-04N 102-il-lE) rail line. On the Kuei-yang side, the line is now complete from Kuei-yang westward to 3 nautical miles southeast of Shui-cheng at 26-34N 101i--54E. This represents a 40 nautical-mile extension of operable rail line within the past 5 months. On the Kun-ming side, the line is complete from Kun-ming northeastward to 30 nautical miles west of Shui-cheng at 26-37N l04-29E, which is a 15 nautical-mile extension of operable rail line within the past 2 months. This significant extension of operable rail line has been constructed through very rugged terrain. The remaining 33 nautical miles of uncompleted rail line is under intense construction. Eighty percent of the railbed, includin the piers for most of the bridges, has been completed on this 25X1 B TOP SECRET Approved For Relea 2uCMMM 4759A003300010006-5 25 25 25 25 TOP SECRET Approved For TOP SECRET 00010006-5 - ERiiwn g LAUNCHERS ~~rrr?~11~ .. .a ~+
