P.I. NOTES 21/66 "PI NOTES" was not issued for the week of 21 January 1966. This issue covers a 2-week period. IAD DEVELOPMENTS During the final quarter of calendar-year 1965, IAD received 73 requirements from the DDP and completed 74. This effort required 28% of the total PI man-hours expended by the Division during that period. IAD PI Course No. 1-66 is tentatively scheduled for presentation during the period 28 February - 25 March, with 12 IAD PI trainees. IAD has recently received a prototype Rapid Interpretation Printer - Processor for evaluation and operational testing. The prototype was built 25X1A by in response to a Division need for a rapid-access, positive-to-positive contact printer. The unit has a capability to produce film base, duplicate positives with a resolution of approximately 200 lines/mm. The prototype was built at a cost of but it is anticipated that production units will cost in the vicinity of (SEC On 24 January 1966 briefed approximately 5 25X1A Far East, as derived from aerial photography from to 25X1D date. (SECRET) NORTH VIETNAM The northern segment of the meter-gauge Vinh-Dong Hoi Rail line was reconstructed by the North Vietnamese during 1963-1965. The rail line has been successfully interdicted since American airstrikes commenced in North Vietnam, but photographic evidence indicates that segments of the northern operable portion of the line continued to be used, probably by Handle Via np c~~~ Talent?KEYHOLE Approved For Release ~9~1/c;tie?vanH' l18T04759A0033000tQQQ8*tem Only CIA INTERNAL USE ONLY mantle Via Tale pp roved For Release 22ta #o&6CRC*4-RUF 8T04759A003300010003-8 E Control KSyst , Only CIA INTERNAL USE ONLY TCS No. 1468/66 l System miniaturized rolling stock. Transshipment activity was also noted at the Trai Hoi Railroad Bridge, (18-21N 105-37E) one of the 2 major unserviceable bridges remaining on the operable segment of the rail line. This segment may be of great logistical importance to the North Vietnamese, as it provides a direct rail route between the Vinh area and Route 15. The latter route is the major motorable road into the Laos Panhandle area, via Mu Gia Pass. (CONFIDENTIAL) SOUTH VIETNAM A continuing detailed photographic analysis of northeastern Cambodia andadjoining areas in Kontum Province, South Vietnam, has revealed 7 probable insurgent bivouac areas interconnected by a series of concealed, well-used trails located approximately 4.5 NM east of the Cambodian Border. Strategic Route 14 is located approximately 27 NM to the east. Although analysis is only preliminary, a very definite similarity exists between the bivouac areas found in Kontum Province and additional ones observed in adjoining northeastern Cambodia and southeastern Laos. Photographic analysis of this border area has been delayed due to the dense rail forest-type vegetation that predominates in mountain and hill 25X9 areas. (CONFIDENTIAL/NO FOREIGN DISSEM Continued analysis of reveals an 25X1D airfield under construction 0.3 nautical mile southwest of San Pedro, Las Villas Province, Cuba, at UTM 17QPQ 266046, AMS Series E723, Sheet 4281 III.
