ASKIZ , USSR
Askiz, a small town on the ,Al~a.kan River, is located
approximately 60 miles southwest of Abakan and 150 miles east-
southeast of Stalinsk.
The Askiz Railroad Station, Yards, and Shops are located
two miles west of Askiz on she single -track South-Siberian Railroad.
From Askiz the South Siberian Railroad extends northeast to Abakan
and- wes ~ to Stalinsk. A branch line '.'.ends south to Abaza.
The Askiz Railroad Station, Y~~rds , and Shops include an
11-track-wide classification yard approximately 3100 feed long
three small holding yards, a six to eight-stall roundhouse, and a
passenger station.
Although clouds and haze preclude a completely detailed
photographic analysis, major compo~ients of the Askiz Railroad
Station, Yards, and Shops are identii'ied and annotated can the
accompanying line drawing and described in the following key.

4. Holding yard, 6 tracks wide (three tracks dead-end), 500' long.
5. Roundhouse, 150' x $0', probably 6-8 stalls.- Associated with
the roundhouse is a turntable 60 i'eet in diameter and a workshop
approximately 8 0' x 7 0' .
6. Holding yard, 7 traek.~ wide (aIl dead-end), 1600' lang.
7. Spur rail line, single-track ,probably leads to Abakan River.
