SUPERPHOSPHATE PLANT
DZHAMBUL, USSR
The Dzhambul Superphosphate Plant, located on the northwest
outskirts of the city, is one of the major producers of phosphatic ferti-
lizers in Kazakhstan. The superphosphate plant, two sulphuric acid
production units, and a thermal power plant are located within a fenced
area measuring 5, 490 by 2, 700 feet. Phosphate ore is shipped by rail
from the Kara-Tau Hills mining area for processing at the Dzhambul.
pla..nt. Both sulphuric acid units have o:re crushing and heat treatment
facilities and reportedly extract sul.phua? from pyrite ores.
One of the sulphuric acid units produces acid for the fertilizer
plant. The seco:d sulphuric acid unit produces acid for shipment
to other area. Railroad tank cars are observed or, sidings adjacent
to the acid storage tanks.
