Barabinsk is located 200 miles east of Ornsk and 190 miles west of
Novosibirsk on the double-track, electrified section of the Trans-Siberian
Railroad.
The Barabinsk Railroad Yards and Shops include a 22-track-wide, 4800-
foot-long classification yard, two receiving/forwarding yards, two holding
yards, car and locomotive repair shops2and a passenger station. Approx-
imately 1000 freight cars of various types were present in these yards at the
time of photography. Data on the cars and locomotives are presented in
Table 1.
Major components of the Barabinsk Railroad Yards and Shops are
annotated on the following photograph (figure 1) and described in the accom-
panying key.
A single track branch line leads from Barabinsk north 6 miles to Kuybyshev
(Kainsk Barabinskiy) to serve the large Kuybyshev Power Plant and other in-
dustrial plantsI in this town (figure 2).
