RAIL TRAFFIC ON THE MOSCOW/LENINGRAD RAILROAD
Approximately 160 miles of the 404--mile double tracked MOSCOW/LENINGRAD
railroad (see map appended) was photographed on This included 25X1
a 100 mile section from LENINGRAD to a point 2 miles SE of.MALAYA VISHERA
(58? 50' N - 34? 05' E), photographed on Greenwich Civil 25X1
Time; and a 60-mile section from 10 miles south of VYSHNIY VOLOCHEK
(59? 35' N - 34? 05' E) to a point 25 miles NW of BOLOGOYE (57? 52' N - 35? 05' E),
photographed on 25X1D
This memorandum provides photographic analysis of the rail traffic observed
on the two sections. Whenever possible, the following information was obtained:
location of train at Greenwich Civil Time, direction of travel, speed, length,
and type of train. The amount of data obtainable is necessarily limited by the
small scale and varying quality of the photography. The number and specific types
of freight cars and whether they were loaded or empty, can not be determined from
a study of this photography.
Only trains in motion or complete trains on sidings are tabulated. Trains
in the complex rail network of Leningrad proper and trains being made up in
classification yards along the route, are not included in tabulations for this
memorandum.
The following tabulation lists the data obtainable on each train observed.
