Q I.; REQUIREMENTS HTA/SI/R. 28/56 and HTA/'SI/Ra5l/56- Identify AI test sites, and search
for evidence of proving ground in the vicinity of Yevpatoriya, USSR.
Cloud cover precludes interpretation of photography covering the Yevpatoriya
city area.
The Saki A/F located approximately 14 miles SE of Yevpatoriya is visible and
much activity is apparent. A taxiway extends east from the field proper for about 1.7
miles and stops just short of a double wire-enclosed area containing two small, buildings.
From near this maximum security area a poor road extends north for approximately 1.2
miles, at the end of which is a crossroad which contains nine vacant pads. Lack of
activity in this area and the poor quality of the approach road would seem to indicate
the non-use of these pads. Another road extends directly north from the administrative
area of the field and splits to form a Y which contains a variety of revetted buildings
and vacant pads.
Approximately 321 miles SE of the A/F, near the village of Ivanovka, are two
excavations, each about 90 x 60 feet,, containing what appear to be concrete foundations.
A new road has been built to this area.
A chemical plant located north of 0tiero (Lake) Sakskoye and two miles west of
the town of Saki is visible. Collateral material indicates that this plant extracts
iodides and bromides from salt water. This appears to be the case as salt pans are
seen in the adjacent lake. The plant, surrounded by a wall,, has been completely rebuilt
and expanded considerably since photography. There seems to be no direct
connection between the plant ane F.
