Reports that SAKI Airfield is an experimental aircraft test center are not
confirmed by a study of recent aerial photography.
SAKI Airfield is an operational medium bomber base. 75 Beagles (IL=28) were
observed on the field.
Since World War II this airfield has undergone considerable expansion. The
main concrete NE/SW runway now measures approx. 6700'x 275'. Parallel to the concrete
runway is a 6000'x 210' sod runway. Construction of new taxiways, handstands,
revetments, and buildings is still in progress, but buildings typical of testing or
experimental activity were not noted.
