Since World War II, two new freight transfer yards have been added immediately
adjacent to and east of the previously existing R.R. Yards at Chop.
One new transloading yard is 20-25 tracks wide and approximately 30001 long,
Two freight sheds, each approximately 325'x 35'9 are located in this yard. The other
yard is 6-8 tracks wide and approximately 4500' long. A new R.R. spur, approx.
3000' long, connects these new yards directly to the RLR. line running north from Chop.
There is little apparent change since World War II in the previously existing
Chop R.R. Yards and Shops. The roundhouse, severely damaged during the war, is now
approximately one-third its original size and probably has a capacity for 7-8
locomot-hhros. The remainder of the war damage has apparently been repaired and the
whole transloading area is very active.
A more detailed report on the ZAHONY-CHOP-CERNA Transloading areas is in progress
and will be produced in the near future.
