REMARKS: The Kivioli plant is one of the four main shale oil distillation units
in the Estonian area. Other units are covered in B-20 (Kohtla-Jarve),
B-21 (Slantsy`) and B-22 (Ahtme).
Main plant operations include a Pintsch Generator retorting unit, three
(possibly four) shale.-oil-producing Tunnel Ovens, a power plant with water cooling
tower, and a large machine shop.
Associated components are shale-oil storage, explosives storage,
workers' dwellings, underground and open pit mining areas and waste dumps, Principal
shale-oil storage is located adjacent to the Pintsch Generator in 13-15 tanks, the
largest approximately 50' in diameter and 4O' high.
New construction of multi-story type dwellings covering an area 1360'
by 1200' is being added to the east section of the workers' quarters.
The total volume of the two shale-ash piles north of the plant is
estimated to be 250-350 million cubic feet.
