SARATOV, USSR
Saratov Airframe Plant 292 is located in the southwest section of
Saratov, USSR. It occupies a fenced and rail-served area of approximately
208 acres and has a floor space of approximately
(see Figures 1 and 2). A road leads from the plant to Saratov South Air-
field, 0.5 mile to the south. Photography of
there has been some construction at the plant since the
shows that
-aerial coverage. The plant probably produces FLASHLIGHT (25 are
visible at the airfield) and also produces various missile components.
The airfield is the test and flyaway field for aircraft produced at the
plant. Also, missile components are probably air-shipped from the field.
In addition, the presence of a U-shaped earthen revetment (see Figure 3,
item 3), with two possible test cells, and a probable concrete double-walled
blockhouse (item 4) indicates that solid fuel rocket motors may be tested
at the field.
The field has
two northeast-southwest runways. One is paved and measures approxi-
mate) The other is a possible pierced planking (steel
runway, approximately 3,200 by 250 feet. Aircraft present on
were 25 FLASHLIGHT, 3 CAB, and one CREEK. The photography also
sows three Guideline (SA-1B) missile carriers and prime movers adjacent
to item 4.
Data on the major components of the plant and field are given in Tables
1 and 2, below, keyed to Figures 2 and 3, respectively.
