The M a-wei Shipyard (25?59'N/119"26'E) is located on the Min
Chiang, 10 miles southeast of Foochow. It appears on
M hotog-
raphy, with the last previous coverage in Associate with the
shipyard is the Pagoda Anchorage and port facilities for Foochow. The
Anchorage is capable of harboring ocean-going vessels in the 350' class
with a draft of approximately 20 feet.
The port facilities at Ma-wei consist of a 530-foot quay, two 110-foot
piers, one 160-foot pier and one 115-foot pier, three warehouses, two boat
basins, and the two graving docks of the shipyard. A floatin , h ar._1e;;s
crane is the only piece of mechanical handling equipment present. Vessels
are off-loaded at Ma-wei and cargo is transshipped via small ft: to
Foochow.
The Ma-wei Shipyard covers approximately 30 acres and consists of
28 buildings and shops, two graving docks and a building way and marine
railway. Ma-wei is on the first class coastal highway and access to
Foochow can be gained by way of this road, The Nan-ping/Foochow rail-
road, presently under construction, will terminate at Ma-wei. Patrol
craft, junks, and landing craft of 60 to 70 feet in length have reportedly
been constructed at the Ma-wei Shipyard. There has been little change
in the shipyard since MThe major components of the M a-wei
Shipyard and associate port facilities are shown on the accompanying
photograph and line drawing, and described in the key to annotations.
