A rocket engine static test stand, under construction in
is located 24 nautical miles northwest of Kuybyshev, USSR, between
the Ku.rumoch Airfield and a. large industrial complex, under construction at
Stavropol.. This test .facility is situated within an isolated and secured
static test area (see Figure 1), which is one of three areas comprising the
over-all Kurumoch..Propulsion Test Complex.
The test stand (see Figure II) is being constructed within a large
excavation in the side of a hill which borders a ,small valley extending
through the secured area. The stage of construction at the time of photog->
raphy indicates that the test stand will. probably be a three-bay reinforced
concrete structure measuring -feet and approximately- .feet high. 25X1 D

The excavation measures approximately feet at its base, with 25X1D
a lip measurement of 525 by 440 feet. The height from the base of the
excavation to the lip is 80 feet. On the western side of the excavation is
a cut probably fo:r a. control bunker. A steel. structure for
servicing the test stand is being constructed to bridge the space between
the, lip of the excavation and the test stand,
With. presently available information, it cannot be determined what
t=ype of liquid propellants will. be utilized in the static fi:K'ings; however,
a. joint study of this problem is under way.
