CH'ENG-TU, CHINA.
Ch'eng-tu Airframe Plant(30-43N 103-57E) is located 6 nautical
miles northwest of the center of the city of Ch'eng-tu, in Szechwan
Province. According to a report 1/, MIG-15, FAGOT-type, jet air-
craft are assembled here. Aerial photographic evidence shows this
to be a full-fledged airframe plant, rather than an .assembly process
of imported parts.
This airframe plant (see accompanying figure) occupies an area
rou hl 3,9 00 feet b 1, 800 feet, and has a roof cover of approximately
and a usable floor space of approximately
1, 7 8, 24.5 square feet. The entire plant area is secured by a fence and/
or wall, and is served by a new single-track rail line from Ch'eng-tu,
and a new road from Ch'eng-tu.
Adjacent to and west of the plant, a new airfield is under con-
struction. This consists of a hard-surfaced landing strip 8, 500 by
225 feet, oriented N/S, and a full-length parallel taxiway 90 feet wide
with four crossovers. A. paved roadway and/or taxiway is under con-
struction.from the airframe plant to the airfield, indicating its future
use as the flyaway field for the plant. The airfield will also be served
by an extension of the same rail line that serves the airframe plant.
Immediately to the south of the plant is a large T-shaped area of
new multistoried housing, under construction, measuring approximately
2, 000 feet by 2, 400 feet.
An aviation technical school is. located approximately one nautical
mile southeast of the airframe plant.
Major components of the.Ch'eng-tu Airframe Plant and the adjacent
airfield are identified on the accompanying drawing and described in the
accompanying key to annotations.
