SUBJECT : SSM Unit in Transit LOCATION : Moscow, USSR WAG NUMBER: 167 REFERENCE: Army, Moscow.^ A. series of ground photographs taken in Moscow NO. : PIC/B-1001/60 DATE : 7 January 1960 4 Nov 59. (S) 25X1A 25X1 D shows part of a train transporting vehicles of a road-mobile surface-to-surface missile (SSM) system. The train which was in the rail yard near Lenin 25X1C Stadium, was stated by to consist of about 30 flatcars and 10 boxcars. The flatcars were repor e to carry 3 fuel semitrailers, 3 acid or liquid-oxygen semitrailers, 2 missile transporter/trailers, 8 ZIS-151 trucks with van-type bodies, 8 ZIS-151 trucks with shop/van-type bodies, 5 ZIS-151 general-purpose trucks, and about 20 two-wheeled trailers. Of the reported equipment, the photographs cover 5 tank-type semitrailers, 2 missile transporter/trailers, and about 15 trucks. Most important are the two canvas-covered, two-axle, missile transporter/ trailers located on four of the flatcars. These flatcars appear similar to a type known to be 34 feet .long. On the basis of this length, the transporter/ trailers measure about 66 feet long, and the distance between axles is. about 33 feet. The distance between the front of the transporter /trailer and what is believed to be the forward cradle arm is about 21 feet. The large missile transporter/trailer photographed in the November 1957 Moscow parade mea- sures 65 feet long, and the distance between the axles is 34.6 feet. The distance from the front of this transporter /trailer to the first cradle arm is 28 feet. From this comparison it can be concluded that the missile transporter /trailer on the train is quite similar to the transporter /trailer with, missile seen in the Moscow parade which is believed to be carrying the Shyster missile (SS-4). 25X1 C It should be noted that no tracked prime movers were on the train and that the trucks identified s ZIS-151 are by design rather light for hauling this type of loads transporter/trailer. The latticework undercarriage of one of the transporter /trailers is probably the tongue:of the trailer in a reversed position for transporting and does not indicate that the trailer may .also be a launcher, as suggested 25X1C Declass Review by NIMA / DoD Approved For Release 2001/08/07 CIA-RDP78TO4751 A000300020010-0
