SUBJECT: Modified. Numbering Module Test Results
DATE: 22 March 1966
The modified numbering module was wired to send ESA and placed upou.. ?-
WASH/ALFA circuit (100 wpm - 24 hour service) on 29 January 1966.
Instructions were issued to operators and technicians stating that under
no circumstances was contact cleaner or any work to be performed upon
this module.
The following is a breakdown of the module's performance:
1. Placed upon circuit 20 January 1966
2. Removed from circuit 21 February 1966 with a message count
of 4044
3. Module was placed on a simulated position 21 February and
completely cycled 9 times for a total of
999 x 9 = 8991 operations
4. 22 February module was again cycled 6 complete times for
a total: 999 x 6 = 5994 operations
5. The module was returned to operations on 22 February and
removed 22 March at 0830. A total of 3638 operations was logged
during this period.
6. Totals:
3638 messages
4044 messages
8991 tests
5994 tests
22,667 test and operational total
This module has performed as a trouble-free unit during the entire
test period. It required no attention other than test observations.
Distortion was checked on both the modified module and the replaced un-
modified module with the following results:

A. Modified Module:
10-12% total peak
0 mark bias
10-12% space bias
B. Unmodified Module:
16-18% total peak
0 mark bias
16-18% space bias
The same readings were observed using the modified module before
removing it 22 March for return to Engineering.
