Communist pressure against government outposts in
Tay Ninh.Province continues fairly intense. Government
regional forces gave up another outpost in southwest
Tay.Ninh after the now familiar pattern of armor and
infantry assaults preceded by heavy shelling. The gov-
ernment's commander for.Military Region 3, fearing ambush,
is reluctant to send army units to help territorial forces
under attack at remote outposts.
In the northern section of. the country, Communist
attacks are still in progress against a government ou.t-
post in western Pleiku Province, but the defenders are

still holding on. North Vietnamese pressure in Quang Nam
and Quang Ngai has slackened, but the lull undoubtedly
is only temporary.
