LIAISON Don Hoye, on the staff of Representative Dan Daniel (D., Va. ), called to ask whether we had any information about an international magazine that has just come out entitled Social and Political Affairs. He said he had no more information about it than that. I called the Agency library and they said they would see if they could find any information on it. 29. Senator William W. Proxmire's (D., Wis.) "gift" amendment. He said he needed to collect his notes before being definitive but felt that we were fully protected. Removed from the amendment were provisions with respect to gift giving and gift accepting and leaving in the bill provisions that GAO will audit State Department's special fund used for the purchase of gifts. 30. I LEGISLATION I called Pat Holt, Chief of Staff;_ Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to get his reading on the action of the conferees on the State Authorization bill. He reiterated what we had heard before, that the provision for gift giving and gift accepting had been removed from the bill, leaving only the provision that GAO would audit State Department's special fund with respect to gifts. Subcommittee Consultant, House International Relations Committee, and told him I had passed Representative William Broomfield's (R. , Mich.) remarks on oversight to the Director and that the Director had called Representative Broomfield directly.
