BRIEFING Had several. phone conversations
with Bruce Van Voorst, Senator Dick Clark's (D. , Iowa) staff, re their desire
to have an Agency representative testify in open session on Thursday,
following Dr. Kissinger, I did not seem to
be making much headway in convincing Van Voorst that this waa s not a good
idea, so I read him a letter I had drafted for Mr. Colby' s signature, stating
that, under the circumstances, he thought an appearance on Thursday would
be inappropriate.

1. (Confidential I LIAISON Met with Dorothy Fosdick,
Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Senate Government
Operations Committee, and provided her the Z4 February 1973
memorandum which was the subject of
in the New York Times this morning. Fosdick was very upset that
Senator Henry Jackson (D., Wash.) had not had prior notice of the
release of the memorandum to the Mouse Select Committee and I
said it was our policy to assure that such not be printed but that the
Select Committees have devoured vast quantities of data and this is
one of those which was scooped up. She said that she requested for
Senator Jackson that all similar matters involving him which have been
transmitted to the Select Committees be,forward.ed to the Senator
immediately. F

10. (Unclassified LIAISON Called Mike Kraft, in
the office of Senator Clifford Case (R. , N.J.), who said that the
statement referred to by Senator Jacob Javits (R. , N. Y.) was
carried in the Trenton Times but that there must have been a mis-
understanding by the reporter since Senator Case was directing the
statement not at CIA but the Administration. We then had a rather
lengthy conversation with Kraft indicating why he felt that the story on
had been leaked by Administration sources although he acknowledged
that this would not excuse confirmation by anyone who participated.
in the briefing.
