OPTIONAL FORM Approved For Release,o20 UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT emorandum TSG/RED (ATTN: E8B051 71 A000400030012-7 C-0111/DI-8E DATE: 1 March 1972 5XsFBJECT: I Nodel 1540-4 Light Table 1. The results of the subjective DI-8 imagery of the "prototype" model 1540-4 light table follows: 25X1 interpreter evaluation are as a. Occasional "rough" travel evidenced in "X" direction at slowest speeds. b. Time from initialization of carriage drive to attaining set speed in "Y" direction exceeds specified limits at several carriage positions. c. "X" carriage lock malfunction: optics mount moves approximately .055 inch with less than three pounds pressure applied. d. Optics carriage evidences a tendency to stop moving during'X-Y " scanning operations. e. Experienced difficulity focusing Zoom 240 in stereo at high magnification. Optics mount drifted downward necessitating constant refocus. Some evidence of side-to-side focus mount movement noted. f. Experienced temporary failure of right side light source. (Only one rear tube would light). g. Zoom 240 loose within optics mount. h. Maximum operating speed of carriage drive less than required. 2. This Office also understands the table failed to meet some of the written specifications during the TEB phase of evaluation. 3. Request "be officially notified the table does not meet operational/ written requirements and that corrective action be initiated. 4. DI-8 believes the aforementioned deficiencies to be correctable as the light table has operated more favorably in the past. However, there is real concern that the apparently deteriorating operating condition of the table evidences a potential intolerable maintenance situation.
