1. The attached proposal has been reviewed and the Photographic
Analysis Group would have no interest in purchasing this instrument.
Ideally we would prefer a magnification range of up to 100X,
without a chemical process and something of smaller size than is
shown by this proposal. From the description of this instrument
loading and threading of film are still required with the additional
periodic tasks of loading and threading paper and changing chemicals.
One of the main objections to the rear projection viewers is the
amount of time involved in loading film. The proposed instrument
has not offered any solution to this problem and greatly resembles
the rear projection viewer in operating procedures and in its
configuration. Lack of space has to be considered therefore compact
units only could be used. In addition we never use footage counters
and would prefer the capability of reading data on the margin of
the film. Reversal processing is definitely an advantage in the
proposed system.
2. Interest has been generated in development of the 3M
processor, especially since it is a dry process operation with good
resolution.
