1. In FY-1967, RAC entered into a contract withi to
design and fabricate a -. otype Vide-Field, High-Power Anemorphic
Stereoviever for Essentially, the purpose of this program is
to expand the field-of-view of conventional microstereoseopes to a point
far beyond that of existing designs. This consists of more than doubling
the diameter of the field of view of the best of currently available
microstereoscopes.
2.' It was not initially anticipated that a mockup of the instrument
design would be required at the end of the design phase; however, because
of the recent concern regarding instrument configuration especially as
it affects building space, it appears prudent to change the scope of the
contract slightly to include a provision to provide a mock-up as a d=--
liverable item before fabrication of the prototype begins. This step
possibly could save a considerable amount of y later in the contract.
3. The Technical Services & Support Group has determined that the
amount for the change-in-scope is valid and that it should be approved
in order to compl to the design phase of this essential project. It is,
therefore, recorded that the change-in-scope of be approved.
FY-1968 R&D Funds will be utilised to cover the change-in-scope.

This change-in-scope will provide a wooden mock-up of the prototype instrument
to enable evaluation of the Phase I design prior to.fabrication of the proto-
type.

There is no known equipment either under development or available commercially
which will satisfy this requirement. This has been coordinated with DDS&T/ORD,
and presented to the Committee on Photographic Exploitation and representatives
of Air Force, Army and Navy.

The original purpose of this project consists of developing a microstereoscope
incorporating a wide field of view, anamorphic correction, and other optical-
mechanical characteristics--all combined in one design. Currently some of these
characteristics are provided to varying degrees in several instruments--frequentl
as retrofitted components, but not all in one instrument. This instrument is
intended to improve photo interpreter performance and reduce fatigue.
