REMOTE OPERATING UNIT
STAT
STAT
This proposal describes a small. remote control panel to be used with
TAT
Model 2825 control console. This panel will, duplicate the most commonly
used functions of thelIcontrol console.
Some of the manual switching functions will be done automatically. For
example the ninth and tenth special character switches will be represented on
the remote panel by two illuminatgd decimal readouts. This count will be
incremented one count following receipt of an acknowledge message indicating
a correct transmission.. Two other decimal readouts will represent special
character, switches 7 and 8. They may be incremented by the operator with the
"area update" push-button. By setting the local-remote switch to.the REMOTE
0
console) position, the operator can select the initial setting of the four
special character switches (seven, eight, nine and ten). When the local-remote
switch js;_,etuxned to the local position, the. decimal readouts- will display
the. initial values the-operator has selected.

REQUIREMENTS AND WORK STATEMENT
1. The main console will work with or without the remote unit being connected.
When the remote unit is connected, selection can be made for operating from
the remote or the main console.
2. The remote console;will contain the following:
a. Four switches which parallel the INITIAL, INTERMEDIATE, TERMINAL and
MULTIPLE POINTING switches on. the main console. Activation of any one of these
switches initiates transmission to the computer.
b. An ALARM RESET switch which parallels the alarm reset switch on the
main console.
c. A TRANSMISSION light which parallels, the TRANSMISSION light on the
main console..
d. An ARJA UPDATE switch which will increment the area decimal readouts &+c
rere7 e_ Po;,37' rc~td~ Tjer, -t-o 0/ ,
e. A five position FUNCTION switch to run in parallel with Special Character
,rotary switch, number five on the main console.
f. A MANUAL-REMOTE switch which transfers operation from the main console
to the proposed remote console and vice-versa.
g. Four illuminated decimal readouts to monitor the last four special
character instructions (Numbers,7, 8, 9 and 10). The two readouts on the left
represent special characters 7 and 8. They may be set by switching to the
main console and setting the special character switches to the desired number
and then switching control back to the remote panel. The readouts will then
display what has been set in the switches. A pushbutton (AREA UPDATE) may
also be used to manually update these readouts. The two readouts on the right
represent special characters 9 and:l0 and may be preset as above. Upon receipt
of an acknowledge message, these readouts are incremented one count. This
;will assure that no update occurs if the message was in error.
Provision has.'been made to plug in a foot pedal which parallels the
"INITIAL" pushbutton.', This provides the operator with a "hands-off". operation
capability.

The proposed remote unit is shown in Figure 1. Magnets are incorporated
on the bottom and rear surfaces to hold the unit in a place convenient for
the operator. Interconnection to the main console is by an 8 foot cable.
Modifications, to the main console will consist of adding or bringing
out the necessary wires to a connector into which the remote unit is plugged.
