Prime design goals are high-speed automatic operation, variable format capability, and high resolution with minimum film distortion or damage. The delivered equipment will be suitable for operational use. The printer will accommodate films of 70 mm to 92" width with frame lengths up to 30 inches and will provide operation in the reseau mode and selective mode as options. 1.2 Activity of this Report Period Final acceptance tests at Army Map Service were interrupted by two machine failures. The failure of the rider lift roller reported on July 26 was traced to a burned out lift solenoid coil. A new coil Government personnel. ? Ion August 4 and was installed by On August 8 there was a reported failure of the outer air bag. This was discovered to be a tear along the front-left end of the outer polyethylene bag. Repairs were made by on August 10. A trip was made-to Army Map Service on August 17 to review the test results to date. The customer reported problems with punch alignment, negative. advance accuracy, raw stock double exposure and uneven ex- posure control. From review of the test data on the original transport frame separation timer, it appears that the variations observed were normal and the system is operating properly. The raw stock double exposure condition reported was traced to a failure of the lift roller solenoid which was replaced. ? The dodge circuit board calibration was checked, and two boards were replaced. A film test did not reveal any gross adjustment diffi- culties; however, a problem may exist when very weak negatives are printed on fast film. The resultant exposure is extremely short and is difficult to control with tungsten filament lamps. A remedial solution may be the addition of a neutral density filter to increase exposure time. A new eyepiece and reticle were installed into the Pre View and Punch ? Station, and the latter was recalibrated byl personnel. Although alignment accuracy was improved, final calibration was not achieved at this time. 1.3 Plans for Next Period It is anticipated that acceptance tests will be completed. 1.4 Problems The outstanding problem is calibration of the Pre View and Punch Station. Methods for improving the precision are being investigated. 1.5 Documentation There was no new documentation this month. 25X1 Approved For Release 2005/05/20 : CIA-RDP78BO477OA001600010113-0 ? 25X1 ?
