Linear Phasolver
Gentlemen:
We are pleased to submit this technical and cost proposal for the develop-
ment and demonstration of a system which will measure linear movement
with an accuracy of one micron (0. 000040 inches) and will exhibit a reso-
lution of one-quarter micron.

For the past several years we have been engaged in the development and
production of advanced precision encoder systems. Our patente syste
the Phasolver*, has found a plication on lame radio telescopes and in
space environments typified by positioning the star-trackers on the Orbit-
ing Astronomical Observatory.
The advantages of minimal mechanical connections eliminating gearings
and brushes, completely avoiding optical reliability problems, insensiti-
vity to eccentricity, vibration, tilt and rigid environmental conditions all
contribute to the extreme accu:.-acy and high reliability these systems
demonstrate.

plishment of the work task described, and the background and qualifica-

technical area, we recommend that you read the following sections in the
order listed: Summary, Section 1 (Introduction); Section 3 (Program
Organization); and Section 4 (Program Schedule).
Attachment 1 to this letter provides costing information which we. fool re-
presents a true and accurate appraisal of the engineering and production
work required. Our prices are based on a Cost- Plus -Fixed-Fee* Contract.
The contract will be so administered that a reserve will always be avail-
able for the preparation of a comprehensive ongi.neeriag report at the co ?
