PRESENT STATUS November 1966 Unit is ready for delivery except for a problem with the lamp dimming circuit. This difficulty is discussed in detail below under Problem Areas. * Unit has same status plus it requires assembly of the hi-intensity light sources and final checkout. 25X1 B. PROBLEM AREAS Lamp Flicker The problem with lamp flicker due to electrical noise generated by the film transport drive circuit still exists. A number of approaches are being made to find a simple and economi- cal solution. These approaches are mainly concerned with isolating the dimming circuit from those generating noise and the use of radio interference filtering. Thb manufacturer of the dimming control circuit has also been consulted and there is a good possibil- ity that he may be able to suggest an effective filtering configur- ation or possible even a modification of the dimming circuit to make it less susceptible to the type of noise present. Film Tracking The problem originally encountered on the 25X1 with the tendency for the film to track off to the side when being Approved or Release 2002/08/20 : CIA-RDP78B04747A003000050026-6 Approved For Release 2002/08/20 : CIA-RDP78B04747A003000050026-6 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 transported, does not seem to exist ZDAI This we beleive is due to the substitution of polished chrome plated rollers for the segmented nylon ones originally used. We feel that the lower friction between the chrome roller and the film reduces the tendency for the film to "walk off" while being transported. C. PROJECTED WORK FOR DECEMBER it is expected that the lmap flicker problem will be solved the equipment modified and receive final inspection and be shipped. Unit will be made ready for inspection by the customers technical representative. TO CUSTOMERS FACILITY-11-23-66 I r- visited customers facility to investigate a pr em The problem was found to be in the mechanical slip clutches in the film drive system. The unit was disassembled and the defective parts replaced. Subsequent to this it was noticed that the film was being transported in an irregula=- manner. This problem was diagnosed as being caused by the tensioning rollers which were occasionally droping down to the film surface. This is caused by the heavier chrome plated rollers which replaced the lighter nylon rollers taped the rollers in the up position and indicated that e wou look into what could be done to increase the return spring force on these rollers. E. FINANCIAL STATEMENT Financial statement for the month of November is included.
