In the letter part of 1963 various individuals of your orgari- sation were given the opportunity to make suggestions for the improvement of this 9" x 16' Tilt Top Light Tables, 2. As a result of these disscuaeione the ttached Development Objectives gxtitled, "An Advanced Tilt Top Light Table," dated 29 January 1964, were formulated. This document 4as submitted to industry and after a competitive evaluation of the resulting proposals was made it was decided to initiate a parallel effort for this development. Frm the start it was recognized that of the two contractors selected had the higher probability of success-. nevertheless, cause sa a importance of this effort I I was selected as an alternate or ''back-up, supplier. 3. After two and a half yearn of intense monitoring by thi office and extensive inputs from your organisation, the ligh=t tables have been delivered. All of the requirements of the Development Objectives have been more or less satisfied; but, as a consequence, the light tables ha a become relatively complicated in com rtson to existing equipment. These units can therefore serve .s 'test bed" to determine if all or part of the advanced features should be in- corporated into a production version of an advanced light table; e.g., the better features of each light table can be combined into a single production version and the unde t ~ able features eliminated thereby reducing loth *omplexity and cost. l+, Altho%:~i most of the advanced features are direct and .ght-forward solutions, some deserve discussion.
