Approved Fe,elease 2001/08/13 : CIA-RDP78B04 00270005000+)-9 IO *001 STATINTL nlarger Automatic Vacuum Projection Table Reporting Period - January 1966 During this past period a vendor was located with a tape- controlled jig bore of sufficient capacity to handle the valve and top plates. The tapes were nearly completed by the end of the period and no machining problems were anticipated. The table casting was subcontracted for machining late in December and work is progressing towards a mid-February delivery to O.T.C. The remaining parts (i.e., valves, retainers and stand-offs) were 95% complete by the end of the period. The final hole configuration in the top plate was added to the mock-up and demonstrated to the customer's representative. Expected activity in February will be to assemble and test the full size vacuum table with delivery expected by the month's end. Included in the drawings were the parts necessary to construct a mock-up of the proposed table. The table casting has been sent to outside vendors for quotation. The mock-up was finished late in the reporting period and preliminary testing pointed out the need to seal together the top plate and the valve plate. Without this sealing there is an air leakage between the plates which allows by-passing of the individual valve chambers and precludes proper valve operation. As soon as this error is corrected the valve design can be evaluated and optimized. Projected work for October is to complete the mock-up evaluation, demonstrate the mock-up performance to the customer's representative, order the table castings, and valve stampings, and start fabrication of the remaining components. STATINTL The customer's representative was at_on September 28 to review progress. A study was made to analyze the vacuum and air flow requirements and establish the mechanical parameters. In summary, the study shows that 2. 5 psi vacuum will be about optimum QTATINTI C. F. M.. The three possible vacuum sources selected as a result of this study were eval_iated on August 27 at-by the customer's representative VW and the Project Encfineer and one unit was selected as most STATINTL accepta e by e customer's representative. During this period the design layout was completed and the table casting drawing started. Projected work for September is to complete the drafting effort, order the casting an.1 stampings (valve) and start in-house fabrication of the table top and miscellaneous mo..znting parts. A visit was made to the customer's facility on August 24 to make additional measurements on the Enlarger. The customer's representative was at~Wn August o review progress and perform the above mentioned tes RAC/ik Approved For Release 2001/08/13 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02700050009-9
