On this date, the undersigned received the September 1966, Progress Report for the subject contract. An exception must be taken to the statement: "In the present design there is a possibility of some inter- ference. This occurs in the magnet support structure when the high intensity sources are swung to their extreme position away from the operator, that is toward the rear of the viewing format. Since it does not seem to the writer that this area will be commonly used for viewing, we may find that this limitation is acceptable." 2. Because of the physical construction of the light table and microscope, the operator will probably position the scope as near to the front edge of the viewing area as possible. Then to view imagery that is near the center or toward the inner edges of the film formats -- the inner edges being those edges of the respective films that are closest to each other as they are positioned on the viewing surface -- the rhomboids will have to be positioned toward the rear of the Nft~ instrument. The large rhomboid separation prevents operation in any other mode. 3.
