C. 20024 25X1 Subject: I I Progress Report August oject 635 25X1 In accordance with contract provisions on the above project, we are enclosing three (3) copies of 25X1 Progress Report on Project 635 for the period August 1966. Also enclosed are two (2) copies of our Financial Report for this period. Very truly yours, Encl: (3) P.R. (2) F.R. Cert. #855513 DECLASS REVIEW by NIMA/DOD Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200020029-5 25X1 25X1 25X1,: Approved For /03/26 : CIA 4DP78B047A002200020029-5 Period Covered: August 1966 Document No.: OD-131 Dated:. 16 September 1966 PRESENT STATUS Fabrication of parts is 90% complete with.the exception of a few parts required for the high intensity tracking light sources. Subassembly of certain selected items has begun. Main assembly has not started. PROBLEM AREAS Tracking Light Sources The design problems with the high intensity tracking light sources reported previously have not been resolved. However, fabrication and assembly has been continued with the belief that the remaining design problems will be resolved early in the assembly phase. X Slide The X slide, which is a subcontracted item,, was received and found to be defective in a number of areas. Some of these discrepancies can be tolerated by changing other parts, however, there were A few which would have required too much modi- fication. The X slide was thus returned to the manufacturer for rework. 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200020029-5 25X1 635 - OD-131 X4/03/26: CIA-RDP78BO .7 7AO02200020029-5 Glass Viewing Plate To minimize the distance between the master and slave magnets in the high intensity light source a thin glass plate of chemically strengthened glass ("Chemcor") made by was specified. Specifications were agreed upon with the vendor and an order placed. Recently, the vendor reported that he could not make the glass in the thickness specified except at an extremely high price. The thickness which he could handle was much less and there was some concern on our part that it might deflect under the pressure of the slave magnets. However, since the design had been committed to this type of glass we let the vendor continue on the condition that if the glass were found to be unsatisfactory because of its thinness it could be returned for credit. Assembly Supervision The Product Engineer who was intimately asso- ciated with the project is still out due to illness. His respon- sibilities have been assumed by other production personnel. How- ever, due to unfamiliarity and a greatly increased work load on these people less progress has been made than planned. We hope that this condition will be remedied in the coming month. PROJECTED WORK FOR SEPTEMBER Mechanical assembly will be 40?% completed. Financial Report A financial report for the month of August is enclosed. 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200020029-5 -2- 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200020029-5 Next 2 Page(s) In Document Exempt Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200020029-5
