Approveo4gr Release 2001/08/13: CIA-RDP78B0 47A001800120043-3 Friday, July 19, 1963 Light Source and Screen (Proposal) Enclosed is an extra copy of proposal to STATINTL develop a new approach to a projection screen and light source. Three copies of the proposal are be. ing sent to for ction and an additional copy is being sent to for information. STATINTL When first discussing with the concept STATINTL of ultraviolet energy impingement on a screen to cause visual fluorescence, I had in mind a general purpose type viewing situation. I think now though that it is probably more applicable to special purpose exploitation techniques. The concepts appear to be fundamentally sound and. do not require new invention, In view of the potential advantages, I believe implementation of the feasibility study is urgently needed. In paragraph 3.2 page 6, I think is hedging STATINTL unnecessarily in his comments on a dispersive screen. The real power of this approach is to be able to use a transparent screen in full ambient room light. Flicker fusion and color perception (page 3) will be fall out benefits and it may turn out that they are of greater importance than the main objective. The main objective however is to obtain a screen without the resolution limitations and directional problems of the dispersi d For Release 2001/08113 : CIA-RDP78B04747A001800120043-3 DECLASS REVIEW by NIMA/DOD
