They are having trc-u ` le vetting definitive bids for making the p tternw. will rake the glass blocks for substrate bid to make the coupler only r ich is straight ruling bid the, Driver pattern only, II on ,doss. has promised to bid the driver manu a'turo from pattern Suva hem a telephone- quote on both the driver an e- coupler, but they cannot got a written quote from him. The trr able with getting the pattern work placed is putting them behind schedule. If hey got the orders p1 aced 1.)y l Jan., it ct-uld be as late as l July before they receive t1he finiabed driver. This is the pacing item and everything else is well in hand. They are putting a lot of pressure on getting the Driver work under way. STAT STATINTL Approved For Release 2002/11/15 : CIA-RDP78B04747A001800120006-4 Approved For Release 2002/11/15: CIA-RDP78 STATINTL STAT STATINTL Work was started last July and delivery is due 30 Marcie. They are presently a few weeks behind schedule, but give them the month of March to check it out, That estimate seems a little optimistic, I doubt if they can make up their time. I suspect a few weeks delay isn't critical, so I did not press the point, hopes to have the machine +4ady-1lep assembled and ready for test by the end of February. That would "has done an excellent job of checking out the un- knowns bf this gear In the breadboard stage. I wish their sister subsidiary in West wood did as well. The opera&ingmodel of the liquid gate worked beautifully. To eliminate bubbles going across. the gate, they are building a low meatin pressure, high volume slow acting pneumatic operated pump. It will operate about 5 strokes per minute so there will be no vibrations gener- ated by It, They are greatly goncerned about operator convenience in changing spools and are working hard an this aspect. It is difficult because the spools are enclosed in the liquid chamber and the rollers and gate are submerged. Permanent leader seems the beat answer for threading. is doing their optics.
