This report is one in a. series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Plc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Plc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (F) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

This military training area is located on the
north edge of Vladimir-Volynskiy and adjacent
to Vladimir-Volynskiy Army Barracks North
(AL-1) and Headquarters 15th Guards Rifle
Division (AL-2). Although it does not appear
to be directly rail served, the Vladimir-Volyn-
skiy/Kovel Railroad runs along its eastern
edge (Figure 1).
The training area covers approximately
8,000 acres. Logistical support and troop
housing facilities are probably provided by
Vladimir-Volynskiy Army Barracks North.

Railroad service is available at Vladimir-
Volynskiy.
Road Service
Secondary roads from Vladimir -Volynskiy
serve the training area.
Driver Training Areas
Area Ml (Figure 2) is a tracked-vehicle,
oval, closed-circuit driver-training course. Six
areas on the pattern contain what appear to be
obstacles which must be traversed by the driv-
ers. This area was first observed in
although partially obscured by cloud cover.
Area M2 is a wheeled-vehicle driver-
training course containing three figure-8 pat-
terns and three irregular-shaped closed-circuit
patterns. This area was first observed in_
Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Range
Area Ni is a 5,000-foot firing range with
seven 2,800-foot lanes and four moving targets--
tracked-vehicle driver-training course, a
wheeled-vehicle driver-training area, four mov-
ing-target tank firing ranges, and a six-gun
field artillery position (Figure 2).

in the size or facilities of this training area,
except for the addition of the wheeled-vehicle
driver-training course in~Ihis train-

one at 70 degrees, one at 90 degrees, and three

Portions of this area were visible on-
photography, but due to cloud cover an exact
determination of its status could not be made
until 25X1 D
Area N2 is a 2,700-foot firing range with
two 1,200-foot lanes and three movingtargets--
two at 60 degrees and one at 20 degrees.
Area N3 is a 1,850-foot firing range with
four 900-foot lanes and a 90-degree moving
target.
Area N4 is a 3,500-foot firing range with
two 2,300-foot lanes and a 90-degree moving
target.
Artillery Emplacements
Area Q is a six-position field artillery
emplacement probably used only for crew drill.
