This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pic (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1P1c.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

A medium-sized barracks installation with
a small-unit training area is located on the
northeast edge of Perechin (Figure 1). Rail
service is provided by a spur which branches
from the Uzhgorod-Turka rail line and termi-
nates at the east corner of the training area.
All-weather, hard-surface roads provide ac-
cess to Perechin, Uzhgorod, and Turka.
The installation (Figures 2 and 3) covers
475 acres and contains at least 118 buildings
including 7 administration buildings, 19 bar-
racks, 17 multiple-unit family quarters, 37
single-unit family quarters, 4 general storage
warehouses, 6 (including 4 in revetments) ex-

plosives storage buildings, 5 vehicle sheds,
2 vehicle repair shops, and 21 small single-
story support buildings.
Facilities include a 400-acre training area,
a vehicle park, an athletic field, and a large

The installation was covered by interpret- 25X1 D
able KEYHOLE missions in
_ There appears to have been an increase
in activity between the missions, indicating 25X1 D
that summer training activities were being
conducted. The installation is well-suited for
the training of security troops and for summer
training of reserve militia.
Railroad Service
A branch line runs through the installation,
terminating in the training area.
Road Service
All -weather, hard-surface roads provide
access to Perechin, Uzhgorod and Turka.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area Dl contains 3 permanent multistory
administration buildings, 19 permanent multi-
story barracks, 17 permanent multistory mul-
tiple-unit family quarters, and 21 small single-
story support buildings.
Area D2 contains 37 permanent single-story
single-unit family quarters.
General Storage Area
Area E has 4 warehouses and 2 administra-
tion buildings.
Ammunition Storage Area
Area F has 4 single-story 30-by 30-foot
probably revetted storage buildings, 2 single-
story 30-by 30-foot storage buildings, one
single-story 65- by 30-foot administration build-
ing, one 220- by 55-foot vehicle shed, and one
110- by 40-foot vehicle shed.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J has a 750- by 350-foot motor park,
two 170- by 35-foot vehicle sheds, one 140- by
30-foot vehicle shed, two 190- by 40-foot vehicle
repair shops, and one 65- by 50- foot administra-
tive building.
Athletic Field
One athletic field (K) is located in Area D1.
Infantry or Combined Arms
Field Training Area
Area R contains ground scarring indicative
of small-unit exercises with a minimum of
vehicle activity.
